Mission and Description

The Dance Program's mission is threefold:

  • To provide students with high-quality dance training and an understanding of movement,
  • To expose students to diverse dance genres and to nurture movement awareness, and
  • To encourage students’ creativity and expression in dance.

Student dance groups, such as the Cathedral Dancers and the Dance Team, have multiple opportunities to perform throughout a school year. In the spring, the annual Dance Gala features projects mostly choreographed by students, as well as our dance faculty and guest artists. We also feature students from the St. Albans School for boys during various performances.

Student Dance Groups

Cathedral Dancers
This classical, music-based, chamber dance troupe performs regularly in NCS morning Cathedral services, as well as in the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols that takes place each December.
Dance Team
This dance crew combines jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop movement dancing to the latest chart-topping songs. The Dance Team performs regularly at NCS basketball team games during halftime and joins the annual Dance Gala performances.

Varied Dance and Movement Offerings

Hip-Hop Dance
Creates and combines elements of various street-dance styles, with freedom for personal interpretation, and dances to music genres such as funk, hip-hop, and R&B.
Broadway Dance
Improves dancing experience, in conjunction with acting and singing, in preparation to perform in the NCS/STA Winter Musical Theater productions.
Pilates
Rejuvenates students by stretching major muscle groups, restoring body alignment, correcting breathing patterns, and enhancing strength, coordination, and range of motion.
Yoga
Features Vinyasa, a yoga style with a flowing movement of connecting postures, offering a dynamic exercise that combines flexibility, breath, meditation, and relaxation.

We have several, dynamic opportunities for you to develop your passion and your talent for dance here at NCS.
