2 Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Semifinalists

Two NCS seniors have been selected as semifinalists for the 2017 Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for graduating high school students.

Skye Bork '17 and Kira Medish '17 are among six semifinalists in the District of Columbia. They were chosen by a national committee of educators, who evaluated some 3,500 candidates—including seven from NCS—on academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, community involvement, and strong character.

The semifinalists will now be evaluated by the Commission on Presidential Scholars, which will announce its selections later this month. Each year, the commission honors up to 161 scholars, who are recognized in a June ceremony sponsored by the White House.

This marks the first time since 2007 that two NCS students were selected as semifinalists for the Presidential Scholars Program.

Congratulations to both Kira and Skye!
