The Eagles Beat St. John's and Take Home the DCSAA Title!!
Cathedral varsity soccer won it's third straight DCSAA Championship with a 3-2 win over WCAC foe St. Johns College High School! Seniors Marta Sniezek and Emma Boyd scored two second half goals for the Eagles to solidify the win.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the game on a break away from senior Marta Sniezek in the 24th minute of play. The Cadets were able to clear a NCS corner kick and Sarah Lipson '15 was able to put the ball just over the back line of SJC when Sniezek broke through to score. The Cadets would quickly get on the board just two minutes later to tie the game up at one a piece going into halftime.
Much of the second half was back and forth but the Cadets took their first lead of the game with 15 minutes left to play on a 40 yard shot. With the Eagles down they pushed Senior Rubii Tamen up top to put a bit more pressure on the Cadet back line. Within minutes Tamen was on a breakaway and was taken out in the penalty box. The SJC goalkeeper was issued a red card and senior Emma Boyd converted her fourth penalty kick of the season to tie the game up at 2-2 with 11 minutes left to play.
A few minutes later, Marta Sniezek found herself behind the back line of SJC on a dish from Rubii Tamen '15 and converted her second goal of the game to finish off the scoring for NCS.
Senior Marta Sniezk was nameD MVP of the match as the Eagles would win their 3rd straight DC State Title!
