NBC’s Andrea Mitchell to Give Janet Griffith International Lecture

The Janet Griffith International Lecture series was created in 1997 to honor the NCS teacher who established the International Program at NCS, Janet Griffith. Each year the NCS Parents’ International Committee invites a person to speak at the Cathedral to the entire NCS student body, 580 girls grades 4-12, on an issue of global importance. Past speakers have included Betty Bao Lord, Madeleine Albright, Esther Brimmer, Asra Nomani, Wade Davis, and Ngozi Iweala. This year’s lecture will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 8:45 am in the National Cathedral.

In addition to her correspondent role for NBC News, Mitchell is the host of MSNBC'S "Andrea Mitchell Reports," an hour of political news and interviews with top newsmakers that airs each day at 1:00 pm ET on MSNBC. Mitchell covered the entire 2008 presidential campaign, from the kickoff in February 2007, broadcasting live from every major primary and caucus state and all the candidate debates for NBC News and MSNBC programs, including “Today,” “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” “Hardball,” “Morning Joe” and “Meet the Press.” She also covered Barack Obama's trip to Iraq, the Middle East and Europe during the presidential campaign. Mitchell currently covers foreign policy, intelligence and national security issues, including the diplomacy of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for all NBC News properties.

In September 2005, Mitchell authored “Talking Back,” a memoir about her experiences as one of the first women to cover five presidents, Congress, and foreign policy. She is a recipient of the Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment freedoms.
