Interdisciplinary Project Deepens Understanding of Constitution for Grade 5
In a project combining information and creativity, Fifth Graders were each assigned a portion of the U.S. Constitution and learned about key concepts, including federalism and ratification. Then, the historians headed to the makerspace to learn about the role of bas-relief in depicting ideals, values, and cultural and religious concepts. They examined ancient Egyptian stone cutting, Renaissance Italian door engravings, and U.S. currency to understand why humans use high and low (bas) relief to elevate ideas and share them with others. They created bas-relief cardboard puzzle pieces of the Constitution that now form a multimedia display on the Fifth Grade hallway.
